Look at the workpiece going into the machine first, rather than a photo of the finished structure
The same steel building will use long webs, flange plates, batch connection plates, and H-beams with holes and end profiles. Their raw material forms, positioning methods and handling methods are different. Equipment selection should start from the parts list: input is a complete flat plate or a beam that has been welded and straightened; what is to be changed in this process is the shape of the plate or the connection features on the beam.
| Processing tasks | Raw materials entering the equipment | Primary output and device orientation |
|---|---|---|
| web, flange plate strip cutting | Whole steel plate | Long strip blank; flame and plasma cutting machine, repeated straight strips can use multiple cutting torch structures |
| Support plate, stiffening plate, connecting plate nesting | Plate grouped by steel grade and thickness | Matching panels with outer contours and slots; TW-LPC plate laser cutting machine |
| Beam end and hole groove processing | H-beam that has been formed and has qualified geometry | Machining ends, openings and laser cutting holes according to beam pattern; TW-LHC H-beam laser cutting machine |
The two branches of the main beam and supporting panels meet at the assembly station
The main beam usually undergoes plate strip cutting, assembly tack welding, main seam welding and flange straightening; suitable assembly welding and straightening solutions can also be used for light steel tasks. When the beam end profile or hole groove is required, the steel cutting is arranged according to the drawing. Support plates, stiffening plates, etc. can be produced in parallel by plate laser equipment. After sorting and marking are completed, they are sent to the assembly station according to component numbers.
The sequence of processes should still be determined in conjunction with the drawings. Some features can be machined at the plate stage, others need to be positioned on the basis of the formed beam. If the holes cut first will be affected by subsequent welding shrinkage or straightening, the margin, retest and final processing timing should be clarified in the process review. Avoid the same hole in one drawing being counted both for flat plate cutting and profile steel processing.
Submit the two-dimensional plate drawing and the three-dimensional beam drawing to the equipment review respectively
Plate tasks require part drawings, material grade, thickness, original plate size, single batch quantity and allowed part rotation direction; small holes, slots, bevels and subsequent machining allowances should be specially marked. Long slabs must also have length, width and straightness requirements, and cannot just submit a gross tonnage plan.
The H-beam task requires the cross-section, beam length, weight, slot location, and end shape, and indicates whether welds and attachments are present. For tapered-section beams, the height and change direction of the large and small ends must be given; for asymmetric beams, the offset of the web and the difference between the upper and lower flanges must be marked. Suppliers review support, positioning, cutter head accessibility and anti-collision space accordingly.
When comparing equipment, include handling and feeding capabilities into the plan
The plate-cutting area must accommodate whole-plate lifting, cut-piece removal, remnant recovery and scrap cleaning. The profile-steel area needs supports, clamping and discharge paths along the long beam. Even with similar machine strokes, the two machine types can have different floor-space and lifting requirements. The workshop plan should show the longest incoming material, longest finished product and lifting-equipment travel path, rather than only the main-machine outline.
Procurement costs should also be compared on a complete mission basis. Include programming, loading, cutting, unloading and sorting, slag cleaning and inspection into the total time of a batch of parts; include gas, consumables, auxiliary facilities and subsequent trimming into the cost of qualified parts. The rapid movement of the cutting head cannot replace the entire batch delivery cycle.
Use an interface table to prevent gaps in the scope of supply
In the technical plan, each set of parts should have designated equipment and clear delivery status. The following recording method can be directly used as a common index for equipment list and workshop layout.
| What needs to be written clearly | Document examples or review highlights | Follow-up work on the impact |
|---|---|---|
| Parts Sets and Versions | Main beam web, stiffening plate of a certain component; corresponding drawing version | The programming file is consistent with the actual object on site |
| Input condition | Steel type, thickness, plate width or beam section, deformation of incoming materials | Select device and confirm targeting |
| Process boundary | Cut only the outline, or include bevels, logos, and clearance | Avoid treating unquoted processes as built-in equipment |
| Delivery status | Dimensions and cut edges accepted; part numbers identifiable; sorted by set. | Assembly, assembly and welding smoothly connect materials |
| Factory interface | Loading and unloading methods, energy, smoke extraction and maintenance areas | Accounting for installation and supporting investment |
Initiate configuration discussions with representative workpieces
- lists web flange strip cutting, supporting plate and forming beam processing tasks respectively.
- Submit the drawings, materials, batch size and acceptance conditions of each set of workpieces.
- Mark areas that require drilling, reaming, tapping, or beveling.
- Clarify the boundaries and dimensional standards between pre-assembly processing and post-welding processing.
- Provide factory floor plan, overhead crane coverage and flow direction of raw materials and finished products.
- The plan is required to also list the main engine, conveying, slag cleaning, smoke exhaust and installation scope.
Priority is given to selecting a group of commonly used parts, the heaviest or longest parts, and parts with the most complex processing features. Separating daily orders with a high coverage ratio from occasional special parts makes it easier to determine which tasks should be undertaken by the main equipment and which require additional processes.
