First define what kind of parts are needed for the next process

The web and flange plate are handed over to the assembly station, focusing on width, length, straightness and matching trimming; the support plate and connecting plate are handed over to the assembly station, and the hole spacing, direction and part number are more critical; the forming beam cutting also needs to control the position of the end and hole group relative to the beam datum. The acceptance form should be set up according to the purpose of the parts, and you cannot just fill in "Appearance Qualified" for all tasks.

Specific tolerances, cut-edge quality and sampling inspection rules shall be derived from drawings, technical agreements and applicable project requirements. If thermal cutting quality standards are adopted, the standard version, applicable scope and agreed level should be stated. Without a value confirmed by both parties, the so-called industry common value should not be temporarily applied on site.

Measure from incoming material, reference and cooling state

Check material identification, thickness, board status and program version before cutting. Warpage, rust layer or attachment of the incoming material may affect the cutting stability and also interfere with subsequent measurements. After cutting, the slag or burrs that hinder the measurement should be removed first, and the inspection should be carried out under the agreed cooling and supporting conditions to avoid taking the hot dimensions directly as the final acceptance result.

For long boards, the width and straightness should be checked at agreed locations along the length, not just at both ends. The plate hole groups should be measured from the same design basis to avoid cumulative errors caused by hole-by-hole connection. The profile steel hole groove also needs to record the support and posture of the beam, and if necessary, distinguish between the cross-sectional deformation and the processing error of the hole itself.

Record trimming defects and dimensional issues separately

Parts with qualified dimensions but obvious gaps, overburning, or incomplete cuts on the trimmed edges may not meet the welding or assembly requirements; the cuts appear smooth, and it does not prove that the hole spacing or appearance is qualified. Measurement results and defect locations should be recorded separately, and photos or samples should be retained to help programming, equipment and process personnel locate the cause.

After the first article is approved, process changes still need to be reviewed

Every time the drawing version, material or key process conditions are changed, it should be judged whether a new first article confirmation is required. After changing the nozzle electrode, adjusting the focus and gas, modifying the kerf compensation, or re-establishing the positioning reference, the corresponding key features should be checked. Passing the previous procedure does not mean that new materials or consumables can be directly produced continuously.

During continuous processing, process inspections are performed at the agreed frequency, and the results are associated with batches, procedures, materials and equipment status. If the quality changes gradually, first check factors such as consumables, height adjustment, air path, movement mechanism and board surface; adjustments should be recorded to avoid finding a stable process after repeated attempts with uncontrolled parameters.

Press the receiving station to complete the handover

Cleaning, numbering and sorting are part of the delivery quality. Parts that pass the inspection should use racks or labels that will not confuse the specifications, and parts for repair and parts to be judged should be stored separately. Parts that require grinding, re-cutting or machining should be completed and re-inspected before being released. You cannot just write "post-process processing".

The same set of quality logic should also be used for procurement acceptance

  • Check part usage, drawing version, materials and acceptance requirements.
  • Specify the measurement standards, cooling support status and measuring tools used.
  • The first piece is inspected for dimensions, trimmings, holes and numbers at the same time.
  • Review relevant characteristics after changes in materials, procedures, consumables, or critical parameters.
  • Segregate parts awaiting disposition and nonconforming parts; retain reinspection records after rework.
  • Deliver qualified parts by component or workstation, and retain batch traceability information.

Equipment acceptance documents should be derived from representative drawings of planned production and include key materials, plate thickness, and geometric characteristics. Both parties shall clarify in advance the processing conditions, inspection methods, sample scope and unqualified handling methods. In this way, the factory trial cutting results can become the basis for on-site process introduction, not just a good-looking display sample.
